Campaign Recaps from 10/06/20 to 10/13/20

10/06/20 The party get to their cave, set watches for a long rest (Sir DS/Ellalan+Kendell/Thineli/Lord Fatty+Yeusof). They notice a musty smell in the cave that wasn't there the last time. Thineli believes it to be some kind of insect smell. Kendell thinks it may have been centipede(s) or similar looking for food. But no signs of nesting... Ellalan has the Direwolf stand guard at the cave entrance. She wants it to alert the others if it senses anything and attacks whatever they attack. So the party goes to sleep leaving Sir Dawnstar on watch...Three Stone Ankhegs (cave dwelling Ankhegs) attack the party, they mostly target the DireWolf. After a short battle they kill 2 and drive the last one off. The rest of the long rest is uneventful. Kendell levels to 4 and Sir Dawnstar levels to 5. Kendell leads the way back to back to the orcish town of Dagambi, taking 1.5 days. It was a mostly quiet journey with Kendell leading them away from any encounters. The coins and gems total 5290gp. One sixth is 881.67gp. The party divvies up the rest of the loot using a wierd system of their own devising.. this takes a while but they are all happy at the end.

Lord Fatty is tasting his new loot...Ellalan would like to head back to Kunaxx the wizard for her gloves, but they aren't ready yet, so she has to go back to the tavern ungloved.Ellalan orders her rum and goes up to her room and starts reading the Linan book for the Sacred Flame spell. Lord Fatty will go talk to bartender on town's view on slavery and proselytize Mishakel's Good words. Sir Dawnstar buys Spilnt armor and sells his old Chainmail. Yesuof make a brass key out of his red wax block trinket. Yeusof looks for Kendell and can't find him at the Alluring Bottle and then he heads off to The Rock of Lement King to see if he is there.. Thineli is looking for a translation of his book with a forgotten language. The bartender directs him to the marketplace and Omaghed the Book Dealer. Lord Fatty asks the bartender about slave and slavery in the town and nearby areas. He finds out about Indentured servants and such. No slaves are taken in the area nearby as it too much work to keep them safe and fed. Lord Fatty visits the orphanage to proselytize his faith as he may attract an acolyte. Yeusof is very leary of trying to prostelize to children... especially vulnerable children in an orphanage...Back home, in his soldiering days, he would wage war against kingdoms that mistreated children. Maybe Lord Fatty can find a willing acolyte from the local unemployed population... with promises of treasure and career training? preaching in brothels was fruitless..

Note: I had the players take their side/solo/shoping things to discord.

@GMBob Ellalan is beginning her reading of the book to learn the sacred flame cantrip. She wants to pick up her magical gloves. She also would like to find out if the cube with the four winds is magical (first asking her party if they can detect magic). She would like to research that item as well as the seashell map of the mythical city. Can she redraw it on paper as well in case the seashell gets lost or broken? Also, do the seashells in the leather pouch look like regular seashells or exotic or unusual in any way? When she picks up her gloves, she would ask the wizard if he has any other magical trinkets available. (Specifically that would make her stronger or stealthier. Or anything weird!)

@ellalan None of the items listed as 'Trinkets' have a magical aura, so Detect Magic gives zero readings. How many hours per day do you want to devote to reading The Linan Slates.. you can easily do 1d6 but each hour past that requires a Int Roll DC 8+number of hours that day and if you fail you waste that hour....You can copy the map on the sea shell but it's a very crude map (from another dimension).  You can go find maps and see and see if there is an equivalent of that map in this world, will cost you 4d20gp, 1d4 days and a DC 14 save vs INT or WIS (your choice). Nothing special about the bag of seashells though some of them are very pretty.

@ellalan When you return to Kunaxx the Wizard to get your gloves the next day, you ask him if he is selling anything weird.. He tries to cover his tusks with his lips and mutters you could try the red candle district over there, pointing to the east...

@yeusof You travel across the town to the tavern, The Rock of the Lement King. Asking the bartender if he seen Kendell, he tell you Kendell was here earlier but left to find an artist to repair a painting he had. As you drink an ale and decide what to do next, you hear the musician working on a song, saying things like "flashing blades of the marauders", "savage arrows of Kendell" and "the sunbeam of Siion, the Harvest God!"... wtf?

@thineli Your owlbear egg could hatch any time now. You have some meat but you should also think about having to nurse the cub as it probably will not eat solid food for a time. Heading to the market place you look for the large stall of Omaghed the Book Dealer. He seems squarish and kind of dried out. He looks at your book and says he knows this language. He can have the book translated for 80gp or he can sell you a lexicon of this language for  40gp. Either of these will take about 2 weeks. Using the lexicon you would use the book at 1d6X5% per hour, so would take you a lot longer to read it but you would also learn this language (called Mutoi, used by a jungle dwelling race far from where you are now).

@lord fatty Getting directions from the bartender (who is called Soughat btw) You set off to the town's orphanage. When you get there, it is a large wooden two story building in need of some repairs with a large fenced in yard. There is a sign in Orcish and Common that says "Happy Home Orphan Home, run by Mother Yolmar".  Looking in the yard you see a bunch of smallish orcs wearing shapeless clothing digging up roots, raising mushrooms and various edible insects.  You knock on the door and are let in to speak to Mother Yolmar. She is a huge matronly female orc (or possibly a male in drag? hard to tell). You tell her you are looking for a child to become your acolyte, to be trained in the worship of your God. She asks you to explain about your god, which is unknown to her..

@GMBob <Yeusof> What!?!? Has Kendall been telling stories of our quest, glorifying himself as the hero?? And no credit to the God Marked Marauders?? That is not honorable at all.... I ask the bartender where the artsy part of town is and go try to find Kendall.

@yeusof Silgre (the bartender) tells you most artists (sneering as she says it) can be found in a run down building on the east side of town by the wall that they call 'The Sleeping Oasis' and I call the laxy bastards inn. You can't miss it, it's an eyesore. So you head over there and find a large wooden rundown multi colored building... nothing matches and it looks like it could collaspe anytime. There are several orcs laying around, walking, talking, etc. all wearing paint smeared smocks....

@GMBob <Thineli> Hello! Thinelli wants to do a few things: 1. Check on the owlbear egg - if it hatches, look to buy some food / grow potion.  Work to train the owlbear to obey simple commands like ‘protect’ and ‘attack’ 2. Look for an upgrade to my armor with some dragon scale. I check to see if any is available to buy. I would also like to find someone in the town that knows about what animals live down here in the caves.

@thineli once it hatches you can work on training it.  As for armor made of dragon scales, you can search but will take you some time (1d4 days or pay people to search for you, 10gp and a day would find out if it's available or could be made). The hunter's tavern (the Rock of the Lemental King) would be the place to talk to hunters.

@GMBob Lord Fatty explains to Mother Yolmar that the tenets of Mishakel. Is about healing of the body, mind and spirit. Restoring to wholeness those who were damaged by war and aggression. That Mishakel is the goddess of motherhood and fertility.  Is there any in her care that need restoration?Lord Fatty explains to Mother Yolmar that the tenets of Mishakel. Is about healing of the body, mind and spirit. Restoring to wholeness those who were damaged by war and aggression. That Mishakel is the goddess of motherhood and fertility.  Is there any in her care that need restoration?

@GMBob <Thineli> Thanks Bob. I head over to the Lemental King and ask around for the dragon scale, I pay for ‘searching’ for the scale. After getting the scale search started, I then go look for a sage to translate the Thesis on the Denizens of the Tooth: Wonderful Wild.

@GMBOB I will spend 3 hours each day available reading. I will hold onto the map and not bother to replicate it and put it in the pouch with my other beautiful seashells, which I will keep.

@GMBOB I will thank Kunaxx politely (at least as politely as I can be!).  If the red district is safe, I will go there by myself.  However, if it is not, I would ask the party if anyone wants to accompany me before heading that way.  If I make it there, I will ask around for magical rings/boots/jewelry, etc, that would help me move faster and/or stealthier.  If there is nothing available like that, I won't buy anything else, unless it sounds really weird and unusual.

@GM Bob  Lord Fatty teaches the children Mishakel prayer mantra “Infinity has no beginning, no beginning can have no end.” Mishakel symbol is the blue infinity. Lord Fatty is in prayerful discernment to determine if any or all children can becomes acolytes Of Mishakel. Other than Activities of Daily Living(ADLs) including preaching the faith Lord Fatty will review his new books and spend a hour a day to learn Undercommon

@GM Bob <Sir DawnStar> I would like to sell all my stuff I got to make my greatsword have 2d4 radiant damage

Except for the 1hit death item and the old book.

@GM Bob  <Yeusof> I walk to one of the orcs that is displaying artwork and ask to see one of their pieces of artwork.  In the casual conversation I ask if they have heard of Kendall.

These threads are picked on in the main game, except for Lord Fatty still doing the Orphanage.

Kill Count=(Ankhegsx2)+(Ankheg driven offx1)

Exp=(450x2)+(450x1/2)=1125/6=187.5 188exp each. +150 each for safely making it back.

Current Exp Totals are: Ellalan 11792, Lord Fatty 10976, Thineli 12726, Yeusof 10528, Sir Dawnstar 8249. Kendell 3458.

10/13/20 Yuseof talks to the artists at 'The Sleeping Oasis' and makes a favorable impression and gets invite to see a performance piece one of them is doing. He asks about Kendell and is told he was here looking to get a painting repaired. Kendell was directed to Ostian the half orc painter, so Yuseof goes to see that person as well. Before he leaves the artists they tell him that Ostian "favors his human half".  When Yuseof gets to Ostian's small brick home, he is met with a person like looks like a male orc dressed like a human farmer (with some paint smears). "Greetings fellow human! Come in, I have some soft foods like bread and cheese I can share with you." They talked for a bit and then the artist shows him his latest work, a painting called The Human Condition.  The painting consists of a group of humans huddling near a campfire behind a high thick wall while several cuddly looking wolves are howling outside. When asked why Kendell had come to see him, Ostain shows Yuseof a painting he was repairing for Kendell. Ostain  critiques the painting and says he is getting ten gold pieces to clean and repair it. Yuseof wants to hide the painting from Kendell as a joke but Ostain tells him orcs are bad at jokes involving their property and Kendell would try to burn his house down. Yuseof then wants to buy the painting from Ostain but is told it isn't his to sell. "You sure are bad at property rights for a human. That's why I live in a brick house." Yuseof goes back to the Alluring Bottle to drink.

Sir DawnStar goes to the marketplace and askes around till directed to the large silk and leather tent of Baish the factor, located at a corner of the market. Sir Dawnstar sells his potions and then goes to see Kunaxx the Wizard to get his GreatSword enchanted with +2d4 radiant damage. It will cost 800gp and take 12 days. He leaves the sword and pays half now (400gp). Sir Dawnstar goes and gets a new greatsword from a blacksmith at the market (50gp). (Sir DawnStar currently has 520gp left). He then goes back to the Alluring Bottle to drink.

Thineli visits Omaghed the Book Dealer at the market. He has a large walled-in section with a tent roof. Lots of books. After explaining what he could do (write a translation or a guide to the language for Thineli to learn it and translate the book himself), Thineli tells him to translate it and pays the 80gp. Omaghed tells him it will be ready in two weeks. Thineli wants to learn about the beasts of the local area so he goes to the Rock of the Lemental King. He also wants to see how the search for dragon scales so he can have armor made is going. The bartender says he still doesn't know of anyone selling any but will keep his ears open for it (Thineli paying him 10gp to search etc). The bar is mostly empty except for a musician that is working on a song. Over hearing it, Thineli realizes it's a bardic song about the party's last adventure so he goes over to talk and help provide some details. There seems to be some name, place and action changes to fit the pace and mood of the song but mostly accurate. While at the bar, Thineli meets Frog, a gnome orphan that is a wizard. He tells his tale of how he escaped an orphan fighting ring that was run by the orphanage. Some back and forth between Thineli and Frog and Thineli invites Frog to join the party. They head back to the Alluring Bottle.

Ellalan realizes that the red candle district is where 'strange or wierd' sex would be purchased so she heads back to the Alluring Bottle. She, Yuseof and Sir DawnStar are somewhat drunk when Thineli and Frog show up. Frog shows some magic. Ellalan throws a peanut at Frog to check his reflexes. But it hits him right in the forehead. "He is not fast, but he makes nice fireworks..." Ellalan touches Thineli on the shoulder to show him how they work.. doing 3 necrotic damage to him. The party engages in drunken revelry and then go to look at the job board in front of the Chief's house. On the board they see "Trolls 75gold per head, Magic Spiders 25gp per head, Bugbear Bandits KILL! 2gp per head!" the party decides to take a long rest after being drunk all evening and then in the morning (?) go hunt the magic spiders... In the morning, Thineli goes to see if Kendell is around but he is out hunting. Lord Fatty is still at the orphanage (more on that later). Ellalan and Sir Dawnstar and Yuseof get breakfast and then plan to meet the party at the Guard Tower. They head to where Shig was lost. As they arrive they see a tunnel filled with webs! Frog tries to Firebolt them but they seem to be like the webs produced by the Phase Spiders and not easily burned. Using a torch and her short sword Ellalan cuts a path in the tunnel, Yuseof cutting one parallel to hers. Rounding a bend they see the tunnel ahead is full of various spiders, Giant Hunting Spiders and Giant Wolf Spiders. Upon seeing the torch light to spiders rush to attack.. but there seems to be a strange coordination to their actions, like they are being led by an unseen commander. They surround the party and assist on attacks so the party realizes they have to retreat. They do a fighting withdraw, almost being overwhelmed. Two Phase Spiders jump in, attack and then withdraw! The party escapes knowing something is going on but not what... CliffHanger!!!!

Kill Count=(Giant Hunting Spiderx4)+(Giant Wolf Spiderx5)+(Phase Spiderx2 forced to escape)

Exp=(200x4)+(50x5)+((700x2)/2)=1750/5=350 exp

Current Exp Totals are: Ellalan 12142, Lord Fatty 10976, Thineli 13076, Yeusof 10878, Sir Dawnstar 8599. Kendell 3458, Frog 650.
